July 21, 2010 - George County Sheriff's Office remembers Sheriff Garry Welford as a caring dedicated lawman

George County, MS Sheriff, Garry Welford, was killed in the line of duty on Wednesday. City and County leaders gathered in Lucedale, MS to pray and mourn the loss of a beloved lawman, late Wednesday afternoon.

Two suspects were leading police on a chase in George County, MS Wednesday afternoon because they were wanted for failure to appear in court for sentencing on a drug charge. Sheriff Welford was laying down a spike strip when he was hit by the suspects. The two suspects were arrested by officials with the Mississippi Highway Patrol later that day.

Welford, who was elected in 2004, was in his second term as sheriff. As sheriff, Welford was especially focused on cleaning up drug problems in the county. Friends and family of Sheriff Welford say, "He will be remembered for years to come. He served George County very well and will be missed."

February 22, 2010 - Prayer Requests for a Member of the Law Enforcement Family

Many of you have heard and know Dr. Bobby Smith, an internationally known motivational speaker particularly for Law Enforcement.  He was a LA Trooper who was shot in the face by a drug dealer and left 100% blind. However instead of letting this destroy his life he used his experience to share the message about officer stress, officer suicide and living a more healthy supportive life with our LE family.  After Bobby’s daughter was killed by a drunk driver years ago he still continued to deliver his positive message of faith and perseverance.

This week Bobby and his wife Janie lost their only son, Brad, at 20 years old. I only met Brad once when Bobby was inducted back into the LA State Police. He was very proud of his father, loved his family and was a respectful, courteous young man.

It is inconceivable to me the pain they must be feeling. I know Bobby has touched and saved many thousands of officers marriages and lives. They need our prayers and support, please join me in reaching out to ask God to bless Bobby, Janie and the rest of Brad’s family or at least include them in your prayers.
